Beauty Review | Sephora Play Box April 2018

Beauty Blog

Being a total beauty addict, I absolutely love the Sephora Play Box.  It gives you an opportunity to try some of their most popular products without committing to purchasing the full sizes.  I also love that it motivates me to try products that otherwise might not have caught my eye.  Since I am constantly trying new products I thought it would be a great blog post idea to give my honest opinion on which are must buys and which are not worth it.  Here are my thoughts on this month’s selections:

1. Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Perfector Skin Tint Foundation in Shade #6

I have used Makeup For Ever foundation in the past and absolutely loved the coverage that it provided.  Lately though, I’ve been gravitating more towards cc creams for a lighter fresher feel.  I didn’t really have high expectations for this product but when I tried it this morning I was blown away!  It is very reminiscent of a cc cream and left my skin feeling so hydrated.  Even after spending the day running around to meetings, it stayed put without a primer or setting powder all day.  I am definitely interested in purchasing this product in the full size.

2. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powerless Finish Airbrush Pressed Powder

I have mixed feelings about the brand It Cosmetics.  Some of their products I have enjoyed, and others I have felt aren’t that special.  I tried this translucent powder and I did notice that my face had more of an airbrushed appearance.  I’m not convinced it is quite the transformation they claim though.  (Tip: Sephora recommends keeping this product handy throughout the day because it also can double as an oil blotter).  I’m a little bit on the fence about this one, I will continue to use the sample a little longer before making up my mind about purchasing.

3. FRESH Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask

I was so excited to see this product included in the April box!  I received a deluxe sample of this mask recently and have been using it religiously.  I absolutely love the way it makes my skin look and feel.  After I wash it off my skin looks so clear and glows.  I have hesitated a bit at the price point, but out of all of the masks I’ve used, this is one of my favorites.

4. Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss

I feel very conflicted about this product.  There were some aspects of it that I really liked.  The vanilla-mint scent is fantastic and the vitamin E and peppermint oil made my lips feel so soft.  The thing that I didn’t like was the shimmer.  I’m not sure if it was the color I received (SPL) or if all of the shades have that much glitter but it was just too much for me.  I prefer a more subtle, flat look.  If I find a shade of this gloss without the glitter, I will definitely purchase it.

5. Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For No Filter Mattifying Primer and Complexion Perfector

This is one of my favorite products I received.  I used this primer under my cc cream and it made for a flawless application.  Even though I have dry skin and this is a mattifying product, it didn’t make my skin feel dry at all.  I still prefer the FAB coconut primer that I use which gives me a subtle glow, but if I am ever feeling like I would prefer more of a matte finish, this will be my go to product.

6. MIU MIU L’eau Rosée

To begin I will say, I do feel it is difficult for me to write perfume reviews because scent is so subjective and what smells great to me, might not appeal to others.  With that being said, I did really enjoy the scent of this product. The light floral theme is perfect for spring and summer and the notes of blackcurrant, lily of the valley and musk were blended perfectly.  The major downside though, is that the scent didn’t last at all.  It faded so quickly I found myself having to reapply throughout the day.  For a higher end designer perfume, this definitely did not meet my expectations.  I would not recommend or purchase this product.

I hope you have enjoyed the first of many product reviews.  Are you a Sephora Play subscriber?  Share your thoughts in the comments below!
