Share the Love: What I’m Watching

Blog Lifestyle

Hi Friends, ready for another segment of my new category Share the Love?  Today I’m talking about some of my favorite shows and movies I’ve been watching lately.  It occurred to me, whenever my friends and I get together we are always so excited to talk about our new favorite discoveries on Netflix or Hulu and what our must watch shows are.  I thought, why not share it on my blog too?  Here’s a look at some of my favorites…

This Is Us

At first I wasn’t going to include This Is Us because I figured everyone is already watching so it’s not exactly a secret find.  However, it has come to my attention that there are still people out there who aren’t hooked on this show yet.  As a superfan, it’s my duty to tell everyone that this is absolutely the best show on tv right now.  If you are going to watch, make sure you watch starting at the first episode.  It’s a story about family with some of the most complex and lovable characters I have seen on tv in a very long time.  Don’t take it from me, watch the first episode and I promise you will be hooked too.

The Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj

This is one of the first shows I’ve come across in a long time that I fell in love with immediately.  Hasan Minhaj is well known for his Netflix special, “Homecoming King” which is one of the best standup specials I have ever seen and he was honored with a Peabody Award for it.  Now Hasan is back on Netflix with a new weekly show called The Patriot Act.  This show is a blend of standup comedy and news commentary.  Hasan creates a fast paced flow to the show which manages to be incredibly funny but also informative and serious at the same time.  He has a unique voice that he brings to global news, culture and politics.  My husband and I anxiously await a new episode each Sunday.  I can’t recommend this show highly enough, there is really nothing else like it out there right now.

Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D.

I’ve been watching the Chicagos since the beginning and I am so hooked on them.  Each series has unique storylines, lovable characters and great casting.  The best part is when they have crossover events between the three shows and sometimes even with Law and Order SVU.  If you like crime dramas or shows that take place in hospitals, this series is for you.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Handmaid’s Tale is one of those shows you have to watch to understand.  It is based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel and has received 34 major nominations in 2018 winning 13 awards including an Emmy for outstanding drama series.  Although the subject matter can be difficult to watch, the show is so well done it really transports you into the world of the handmaid.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

I love this show so much and the second season was just released!  This show is about a  housewife in the 1950s who decides to become a stand up comic.  It has won 8 Emmy awards and is so unique, there is nothing else out there like it.  I promise you will fall in love with Mrs. Maisel!

New Amsterdam

My husband and I are actually obsessed with New Amsterdam.  This show follows Dr. Max Goodwin the medical director for the oldest public hospital in America.  Dr. Goodwin is determined to shake up the status quo and provide the best care for his patients at all costs.  Even if you have seen a lot of other medical shows, this one stands out from the rest.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Netflix’s original movies and shows are so fantastic, the company has continued to turn out so many amazing products over the past few years. One of their best movies in my opinion, is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.  The synopsis is: When her secret love letters somehow get mailed to each of her five crushes, Lara Jean finds her quiet high school existence turned upside down.  Sounds like any high school teen movie right?  Well this movie manages to transcend the typical teenage stereotype through complex characters and real emotional scenes.  The actors in this are also amazing.  I can’t say enough good things about this movie.
