Essential Oils 101: My Thoughts Two Months In

Essential Oils Lifestyle

Hi Friends! As promised I’m here to update you on my thoughts on Young Living. So far I have been extremely happy with my decision to become a member. If you’re curious about what Young Living is, you can read my original post here, Why I Became a Member of Young Living. That post talks a little bit about why I decided to become a member and what made me choose Young Living specifically.

The first month I jumped right in to my starter kit and began testing all of the products. I received a diffuser, twelve oils and some extra samples in my kit which gave me everything I needed to to start diffusing and blending some rollers and products. Immediately I gravitated toward Valor, Peace & Calming, Raven and Thieves.

First of all, I can definitely see a huge difference in the quality of these oils compared to oils I’ve used in the past. When I diffuse them, I smell them much more strongly and can feel the effects more than I have before. While I’m certainly not a doctor, I can say that making the change from burning candles in my home to diffusing essential oils was a huge help in alleviating some of my asthma symptoms. After learning about just how toxic candles are, I realized that with my respiratory issues, the best thing for me to do was to cut them out altogether. I found that the diffuser still gave me the beautiful scents I loved without all of the extra chemicals. My favorite part is coming up with my own blends! It’s so much fun to put together different mixes and you can pretty much recreate any of your favorite candles. There are so many great diffuser recipes on Pinterest too.

For the first month I was in summer mode and was constantly diffusing Peace & Calming which just might be my all time favorite. This oil is a blend of Ylang Ylang, Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli and Blue Tansy. I kept this diffusing in my living room non stop for a month and I did feel that it promoted a calmer energy in the space.

My next favorite is Raven. Raven is a blend of Ravintsara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Wintergreen and Lemon essential oils. I like to diffuse this in my bedroom for respiratory support. I love the smell and the overall feeling this oil gives me.

Next up is Valor. Valor has so many uses, you can apply it topically to the bottom of your feet to ease back pain, dilute with coconut oil and rub on to the back of your neck to reduce stiffness, or you can diffuse it to reduce stress and promote emotional strength.

Thieves is such a great oil it really deserves a post of its own, but to keep it simple, thieves is an immune booster. It’s a blend of clove, eucalyptus, lemon, cinnamon and rosemary which can be used so many ways. You can roll it on the bottom of your feet to boost immunity, add the vitality version of the oil to your tea, or diffuse it in your home. (There is actually an entire line of thieves cleaning and personal health products, but more on that later). One of the things I love about thieves is the fall smell! This is the oil that made me forget about all of my fall candles. Pair it with orange and you will be in fall mode in no time.

I signed up for Essential Rewards which is a monthly wellness box where you can choose exactly what you receive each month. You spend $50 minimum but from there you will get a percentage back on everything you buy, free products each month on qualifying orders and free oils every three months. The thing I liked about this particular program is that you can cancel at any time with no penalty. I’m all about getting a good deal so that was a good fit for me.

Since my starter kit I have placed two more orders and have been busy trying out new oils. I also worked on a little project and made myself some rollers which I absolutely love. Rollers are a great way to take your oils with you wherever you go and you can quickly and easily apply them. I’ll put together another post talking about the blends I made and sharing the recipes.

For me, becoming a member of Young Living was another step in a health journey that I’ve been on now for a few years. I was initially just interested in finding a way to replace candles but what I discovered is so much more. The possibilities are absolutely endless and I’ll be experimenting with all sorts of DIY products to make my home as healthy as it can be.
