Okay let’s talk about perfume! I have definitely been guilty in the past of getting all caught up in the pretty packaging and not paying any attention to what is actually in these little bottles. Over the course of the last year I’ve done some research regarding fragrance and it was really disappointing to find out just how dangerous traditional perfumes can be.
The main reason for this is because of the dreaded catch all ingredient “fragrance”. The issue is, companies are not required to disclose all of their ingredients because their scents are considered trade secrets. Because of this, they can just use the term fragrance, when in reality we have no idea what that fragrance is actually comprised of. A signature scent can have up to 3,000 different chemicals in it. These chemicals contain hormone disruptors like phthalates, petroleum, acetone and many other really harmful chemicals.
There are some awesome all natural perfume companies out there and I have found a few I love, but they are very pricey and I don’t always have room in my beauty budget for an expensive perfume. This brings me to the one millionth reason I love my oils. Not only can I customize my own scents at home (which for a creative person is the most amazing thing) but I can create cost effective blends myself and I can feel confident about the ingredients knowing that they are made with 100% pure therapeutic grade oils.
This week I decided to make up a blend to use as a daily perfume. I wanted something unique with an earthy, natural vibe to it that felt laid back and grounding. I pulled out some of my favorite oils and whipped up this blend in a few minutes. Here’s the recipe if you want to give it a try! I tend to like my scents a bit stronger so I used a lot of drops, but if you want a more subtle scent you can reduce the number of drops.
20 Drops of Inner Child
20 Drops of Valor
20 Drops of Patchouli
20 Drops of Sara
20 Drops of Grounding
A splash of witch hazel
4 oz bottle
Super easy, cost effective and so much fun! I can’t wait to make more blends I can switch out based on how I’m feeling that day.
Tell me in the comments below, what are your favorite oils and what would your dream perfume blend be?
